Agreed! It’s so much more fun to go “off-grid”! We can let our dog run without worrying about imposing on the next campsite and the opportunity to explore off the beaten path is a treat. AND we don’t have nosy neighbors commenting on our martini shakers!

I love your idea of public transportation as a way to not only save money but also to see the local sites and maybe get a little exercise. Many cities have bike-sharing programs and/or well-developed bus and train routes that can be researched online before you arrive.
If you avoid cities in favor of parks and forests, there are a lot of good folding bicycles available to help you explore and work up an appetite for your thrifty, home-cooked meal!

@John, you’re so right! Facebook is also a great way to stay in touch while on the road. I have seen some fun posts from RV parks: One couple shares pictures of their two dogs at every new stop. Another couple finds vintage postcards in the state they are visiting and features one as their profile picture. For those of you old enough to remember “round robin” family letters, this is the modern answer to that tradition!
