Even if you already own your vehicle, registering it in Montana could still be an advantage to you!
You could eliminate annual personal property tax and reduce
registration costs by moving your vehicles to a Montana LLC!
If you do already own your vehicle, there are a few things you will need to check before you commit to a Montana LLC. Click on any of the items below to get more information on how they affect moving your vehicle to your LLC.
- If there is a current loan on the vehicle, DO NOT SET UP A NEW LLC TO REGISTER AND TITLE THE VEHICLE UNTIL YOU HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH YOUR LENDER!
- Your lender will need to give you permission to register and title the vehicle in the name of the LLC only. They will need to release the title to our office, accompanied by a signed letter, indicating that the vehicle can be titled to your LLC and that they are to remain the lien holder on the vehicle.
- If you lender will not work with the Montana LLC, you can refinance the vehicle with a lien holder who will, or pay off the lien.
- We cannot move the vehicle to your LLC if there is a lien and the lien holder will not give permission for the change in ownership.
- Please contact our office if your lien holder has any questions, as we may be able to guide you through the process.
- If there is a lien on the vehicle, it will still need to be addressed before any change in ownership can take place.
- If there is not a lien on the vehicle, there is no problem moving the vehicle into your LLC!
- DO NOT attempt to change the information currently listed in the purchaser section of the title! This could result in making the title void. It will also result in extra paperwork, and possibly delayed registration of your vehicle.
- DO NOT use the dealer reassignment sections to attempt to transfer ownership to your LLC. This will result in extra paperwork, and possibly delayed registration of your vehicle.
- We will provide you with a Montana Bill of Sale, which can be used to transfer ownership to the LLC, without the need to register the vehicle prior to the move to the LLC.
- If there is a lien on the vehicle, it will still need to be addressed before any change in ownership can take place.
- If there is not a lien on the vehicle, there is no problem moving the vehicle into your LLC!
- Simply sign as the seller where indicated on the title.
- Complete the odometer statement section of the title (if there is not one, please contact our office and we can provide you with a Montana Bill of Sale to record the odometer reading on).
- Fill in the LLC’s name and address as the purchaser.
- Sign your personal name where the purchaser’s signature is requested.
- If asked for the printed name of the purchaser, print your personal name.
- DO NOT fill any purchaser information into the title until you have confirmation that your LLC name request has been accepted by the Montana Secretary of State. This will result in extra paperwork, and possibly delayed registration of your vehicle.
